Meet the team

Leaving school at the age of 16, Jim’s first taste of the motor trade was with Harper Motor Company (Ford) in Aberdeen as a YTS Parts Person taking home £27.50 per week. He then went on to complete his City & Guilds Apprenticeship with Local Vauxhall Dealer Lawrence of Kemnay, working his way up through the ranks by joining their very successful sales team in 1993, eventually becoming Sales manager in 1999.

Grasping an opportunity to start his own Car sales business in December 2002, Jim has never looked back.

Jim & Gail opened their doors for the first time on the 1st of February 2003, with a promise that every customer would remember their buying experience for all the right reasons. A promise that Jim holds close to his heart even today.

Joining us officially in May 2009, Phil has progressed through the ranks from Part Time Meet & Greeter and driver to Sales Consultant, Sales Manager and finally becoming Sales Director in August 2020.

Over the years Phil has picked up some major national awards for his performance . In 2013 Phil was rewarded for his hard work and focus on achieving finance and sales targets by winning a national award at Car Dealer Magazines Used Car Dealer Awards in December 2013. Phil became the first winner of  'Upsales and F&I Performance of the Year’ achieving this by helping our small sales team increase our finance volume by a massive 48% in one year. In 2019 he was awarded ' Highly Commended'  for ‘Sales Manager of the Year’ at The Auto Industry Excellence Awards.

Liam joined Team Reid full time in June 2021 when he helped set up our Gloss HQ our Ceramic Coating brand from scratch after leaving a very successful 7 year career as an Aeronautical Engineer in Aberdeen.

Having grown up within the Sales environment it was somewhat inevitable that he would end up selling vehicles in the Sales Department, which is exactly what he did until he grasped the opportunity to take over the daily running of our very busy Service & MOT Centre as Aftersales Director.

Since taking over the reigns fully in May 2023 he has increased the turnover and improved the productivity and profitability massively without losing the very unique personal customer experience we are famous for delivering.

Joint Director, but more importantly my wife and mother of our two children, Laura and Liam, and now Grandma to our lovely grand kids, Aria, Murray, Ada and Faye.

Gail has been the driver behind our success. When I came home from work one day as Sales Manager at Lawrence of Kemnay and told her that I would love to start up on my own, she asked 'what took you so long?'

With support like that I couldn’t go wrong. When we started in business back in February 2003, Gail and I were Jim Reid Vehicle Sales. We simply HAD to do everything ourselves. That meant buying, selling, answering the phone, washing, cleaning and polishing every car, collecting and delivering cars, even cleaning the toilets I mean EVERYTHING, 7 days a week, this with two young children to bring up.

“Looking back it was only our joint determination to make the business work that has made us succeed. However without Gail’s support, I would never have achieved my dream” Jim Reid, Director.

As a fully qualified midwife, Laura took the decision to not go back to midwifery after the birth of her daughter Aria, this meant Laura becoming a full time mum. However, due to the changes in GDPR and the ever changing compliance and regulation in our industry, we called on Lauras administration expertise and gentle phone manner to help contact our customers to get this in place and keep updated.

Due to being full time Mum to Aria, Murray and Ada , Laura's time at the garage is limited however she always brightens the place regardless of what marketing , HR or admin job she is carrying out.

Greig joined our Sales team as a sales consultant in 2018 however has now been promoted to run our Herd Hire franchise as Fleet Manager.

Greig not only looks after the daily Self Drive Van & Car Hire Fleet , but also looks after our longer term rental customers ensuring that they are looked after and that they are never off the road.

Greig is now looking to expand his Long Term Van Hire offering as another option to Contract Hire which is not always available to fledgling businesses. Following a period as part time Saturday Meet & Greeter, Fabio was offered a full time position in February 2020 just before the COVID Pandemic hit. However Fabio stuck to his dream of becoming a Sales Consultant and has achieved exactly that. Now an established figure in our Sales Centre you will always be greeted with a massive Fabio smile and desire to help.

Fabio is also responsible for taking photo's of our stock cars and loading these along with specification and stories onto our new website. He also loves making video's and is an active Team Member updating our Social Media channels.

Joining us back in September 2015 as a youngster straight out of school. Craig then went onto complete his 4 years apprenticeship with us, before qualifying as a Level 3 Vehicle Technician also qualified to work on Hybrid vehicles and fully electric vehicles.

Craig went onto successfully become a Class 4 & Class 7 MOT Tester before a career change in 2023 when he seized the opportunity to join the Sales Team as a Sales Consultant.

At 6ft 5 and with size 10 feet Craig has adopted the nickname Shorty and is by far the tallest Team member.

Shelley started with us in February 2024 as support to Greig in our very busy Herd Van Hire Franchise.

Shelly has managed to settle into her new role very quickly despite having no previous experience in the Van Hire Industry. You will normally find Shelley with a big smile on her face behind the desk in our Herd Hire Hut right next door to our Sales Centre . But if she's not their she is covering holidays or days off in the Service Centre reception.

Euan first joined Team Reid in a joint role as a cover for our busy Herd Van Hire Franchise and to help out at our Service Centre having previously worked in the Van Hire Industry.

Due to the increased volume of work in the Service Centre, Euan was offered and grasped the chance to work in our Service Centre full time.

Euan's responsibilities include, parts , booking in customers and invoicing.

Darren started with us during 2023 having been out of the Motor Industry for a number of years but very quickly picked up where he left off.

A very experienced Vehicle Technician and as Jim has openly stated previously "Darren is the best vehicle technician I have had the pleasure of working alongside, bar none". High praise from someone who has been in the industry for almost 40 years and worked with a lot of mechanics and technicians.

Darren's desire to keep learning and his work ethos is both inspiring and infectious. 

Mike joined Team Reid in February 2024 but has quickly shown his willingness to add to his knowledge and experience by adding Air Conditioning to his portfolio along with successfully becoming a Class 4 & 7 MOT Tester.

Mike lives and breathes cars and is always fixing up something in his spare time. 

Findlay joined us an inexperienced car valeter in February 2023 however it became apparent very quickly that his desire was to join the Service Team as a Vehicle Technician, so when the opportunity arose in September 2023 we offered a 4 year Apprenticeship to him.

Findlay is a very popular young man and a very important part of our team. His desire to learn speaks volumes for him so we have teamed up with the very experienced Darren so he learns from the best.

Despite only being with us since January 2023 , it feels like Ian has always been part of the Team. His industry knowledge and motor trade experience is wide and deep and this brings a certain calmness to the Service Team. Ian is our main MOT tester and regularly MOT's 8 or 9 days per day, ensuring we have a constant flow of repairs for the Vehicle Technicians. His calm attitude and confidence gives him the edge when it comes to MOT cars and will be sadly missed when he retires in June 2024.

Joining our team in June 2012, Holly has established herself as a top quality valeter and an expert with a machine polisher, removing scuffs and scratches with ease. Holly loves valeting cars and describes it as the best job in the world. Dedicated to the job, when Holly finds herself on a day off she will either be watching football, getting a new tattoo, valeting her own Red Alfa Romeo or a Domino's pizza.

Holly is not only in charge of our busy valeting department but also heads up our Ceramic Coating business called Gloss HQ.

You've guessed it , Aline is Fabio's sister. Due to moving to Inverurie Aline joined Team Reid as a vehicle valeter in September 2023 and absolutely loves it. 

Aline's main responsibility to ensure each daily hire van for Herd Hire is washed and vacuumed before going out on hire again and with a fleet of over 20 daily hire vans, this is no easy job keeping up.

Aline like her brother Fabio has a fantastic positive outlook on life and a inspirational work ethos. Always busy and makes the best coffee.

Well where do I start........ moving from Ireland in early 2023 Philip found himself looking for a little part time job to help meet new people and to help top up the piggy bank so he started with us in February 2023 and all we can say....... it's been an absolute blast.

You will always hear Philip before you see him as he is a non stop chatter box but has a heart of gold and a golden personality to go along with it.

His enthusiasm for life is amazing and his fitness level is fantastic making him one of the mos loved members of Team Reid.

Gary is our very own handy man & driver who joined the team in 2018.

Splitting his time between the Sales & Service Centre Gary is a Jack of all trades. Fuelling cars one minute to cutting the grass the next. He can turn his hand to anything and everything and moans about nothing.

You will always find Gary with a smile on his face and a willingness to help anyone one of the most likeable people you will ever meet.

Gary is also our Community Superstar, helping out the Kintore Community with refurbishing benches, painting, weeding and cleaning. It's all in a day's work for Gary.

Ian first started with us back in 2019 as he was looking for a part time job to top up his income. Jim first met Ian when he stopped him whilst he was picking up litter as his part of his main job with Aberdeenshire Council in Kintore. Jim was very impressed with Ian's attitude and focus towards his work and offered a job on the spot. Although Ian didn't accept straight away he eventually accepted and has been part of Team Reid ever since.

You will see Ian every Wednesday morning in our sales yard ensuring all the cars are dirt and dust free.
